Salt, Sand or Kitty Litter for Winter Traction

As we slowly approach winter, there are few essentials that every driver should have in their vehicle, including items that can help you gain traction if you find yourself stuck in a deep patch of snow. Salt, sand, or kitty litter are a must-have trio for winter driving, and although they are all beneficial, they don’t all work the same way.

Although road salt is great for melting snow, it is a corrosive substance and could damage your vehicle’s paint as well as the sheet metal if not promptly washed off. That being said, it is still a great way to melt snow and give your vehicle the traction needed to get you unstuck.

Another alternative for those who find themselves stuck in a patch of snow is kitty litter or sand. Granted, these two items do not melt snow, but they do, however, provide enough traction to get you moving. Along with preventative winter maintenance, these tips should provide you with trouble-free driving this winter season.

If you haven’t already had winter maintenance performed on your vehicle, we at Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Billings would encourage you to visit our service department today.
