Bold statements are nothing new in the auto industry , but it's still exciting when the CEO of the Chrysler Group is predicting the Jeep brand will sell a million units around the world this year.
So what's making CEO Sergio Marchionne so confident? For starters, we don't have to look any further than the Jeep Cherokee, which is the vehicle Marchionne is holding in highest regards.
During a speech last week at the Detroit Auto Show, Marchionne said demand for the present model of the Cherokee could increase the Jeep brand's sales by 37 percent this year. With more than 730,000 sales in 2013, that prediction would mean a million vehicle sales is very plausible.
Launched in 2013, the Cherokee succeeded the Jeep Liberty and has since performed admirably, sales-wise since its initial release. The Cherokee's success will have to continue and even increase though to meet Marchionne's prediction. Experts are predicting the 2014 Cherokee will have to make five-figure monthly sales numbers on a consistent basis to reach the milestone this year.
Joining the Cherokee in the Jeep brand's quest for success is a new, unnamed sub-compact scheduled for release in America and Europe this year. From a local standpoint, we know that the sales of the 2014 Wrangler and the 2014 Grand Cherokee will also be crucial to the manufacturer's overall success.
