Today on our blog, we have some very exciting info to share with all of you in the greater Billings, MT area. The tow ratings for the new 2014 RAM 1500 lineup are finally here, and we think you will be quite pleased.
Everyone is talking about the EcoDiesel model that will be offered. Sporting a 3.0-liter V-6 engine, the 2WD, two-door, long bed model will be able to tow up to 9,200 Ibs. This is quite impressive considering it is only 50 Ibs. less than the current 2013 RAM 1500 featuring a 5.7-liter V-8 engine. It is predicted the EcoDiesel will offer impressive fuel economy as well, although none of the estimates have been confirmed yet. The powertrain will be available as an option within the lineup for an additional $2,850.
As for the new RAM 1500 sporting a Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine, this model will offer a best-in-class towing capacity of 7,450 Ibs, placing its above competitors within the segment featuring the same size powertrain.
Explaining how this towing capacity was achieved, Mike Cairns, Chief Engineer for RAM, states, "There was more towing capacity in the V-6 Ram 1500 but we needed to upgrade the transmission to hold the truck and trailer when parked on steep grades. Now that we're building the transmissions ourselves, the improvements are included in the new assembly."1
